Fields, forests and mountains took turns outside the window, and time slipped by in conversation, jokes and music.
The day started early and in high spirits. At 10:00 my brother, a friend of ours and I set off from Burgas toward Samokov. A long road lay ahead, but we were buzzing with excitement.
The moment we left the city, the scenery began to change before our eyes. Fields, forests and mountains took turns outside the window, and time slipped by in conversation, jokes and music. As we got closer to Samokov, nature grew even more beautiful — the green forests thickened, and Rila rose up in front of us.
The Town
Samokov is one of those towns that carry their history lightly. Revival-era houses, the old museum, the monuments to the masters of the Samokov Art School — everything is within walking distance, wrapped in mountain air.
What to See
- The History Museum and its exhibition on the Samokov Art School
- The Bayrakli Mosque — one of the most beautiful Revival-era monuments
- The town center with its fountains and old houses
- The proximity to Borovets — a 10-minute drive to the resort and the start of the trails to Musala
The road from Burgas isn’t short, but that’s exactly the magic of our trips — you leave in the dark, you come home in the dark, and in between lies a whole new day full of discoveries.
