Veliki Preslav

I had wanted to visit Veliki Preslav for a long time.

My walk began at the Archaeological Reserve. Wandering among the remains of the fortress walls, I imagined how life must have bustled here centuries ago. I tried to picture the noise of the markets, the footsteps of soldiers, and the voices of scholars creating books in the nearby monasteries.

I paused in front of the ruins of the palace complex and thought about the age of Simeon I the Great. It was right here that Bulgaria reached its cultural golden age.
