Taranto is a wonderful little town! We were there for a day and visited the fortress — on a night tour. It was fascinating, because you have to have a guide since the military manages the site, and they sent us an English-speaking one.
He showed us around, and it was really interesting. We asked him whether they get many midnight visits — he said people love coming here for romantic walks.
I’d never wandered around a fortress in the middle of the night before.
